Do Yoda Proud: Speculation 101

By Louise Haire

Meditation refers to a state where your body and mind are consciously decompressed and centred. Practitioners of this art study enhanced awareness, direction, and concentration, as well as a more certain outlook in life.

Meditation is generally connected with monks, religious mystics and other sacred disciplines. Nevertheless, you don't have to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits. And you do not even have to be in a special place to practise it. You could still try it in your own living room!

Although there are many unique approaches to speculation, the main rules stay the unchanged. The most main among these rules is that of getting rid of obstructive, ill, and wandering views and fantasies, and calming the mind with a deep sense of direction. This clears the mind of junk and develops it for a higher quality of activity.

The bad views you have - those of flashy neighbors, autocratic officemates, that parking tag you got, and unwelcome spam- are said to impart to the 'polluting' of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the 'cleansing' of the mind so that it may concentrate on deeper, more purposeful thoughts.

Many practitioners still shut down all receptive input - no views, no sounds, and nothing to touch - and try to detach themselves from the disturbance around them. You may now focalize on a deep, important idea if this is your objective. It may appear deafening at first, since we are all too habitual to incessantly hearing and examining things, but as you proceed this practise you will determine yourself getting more aware of everything around you.

If you learn the speculating poses you learn on TV terrible - those with impossibly curved backs, and painful-looking contortions - you need not worry. The rule here is to be in a easy posture to concentration. This may be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking.

If the position permits you to relax and focalize, then that would be a good beginning point. While sitting or standing, the back should be vertical, but not tense or hard. In different positions, the only no-no is slouching and falling asleep.

Loose, comfortable garments help a lot in the process since awkward fitting clothes have a propensity to choke you up and make you feel tense.

The place you perform speculation should have a easy atmosphere. It may be in your living room, or bedroom, or any place that you feel cozy in. You might need an exercise mat if you plan to take on the more tough postures (if you feel more focused doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release). You may require to have the place arranged so that it is soothing to your senses.

Silence helps most people relax and meditate, so you may want a quiet, sporadic area far from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine. Charming scents also help in that regard, so stocking up on musky candles isn't such a bad thought either.

The monks you see on television creating those flat voices are really performing their mantra. This, in simple terms, is a short creed, a simple sound which, for these practitioners, holds a deep value.

You do not need to perform such; Still, it would pay to note that focusing on repetitive activities such as breathing, and humming help the practitioner participate a higher state of consciousness.

The principle here is direction. You could also try focusing on a particular target or idea, or even, while keeping your eyes open, focalize on a single sight.

Integrated sample routine would be to - while in a meditative state - wordlessly name every part of your body and focusing your knowingness on that part. While doing this you should be conscious of any tension on any part of your body. Mentally understand releasing this stress. It makes wonders.

In all, meditation is a relatively safe and sound exercise and its benefits are well worth the attempt (or non-effort - remember we're relaxing).

Surveys have proven that speculation does bring about positive physiologic effects to the body. And there has been a growing consensus in the medical community to further study the consequences of such. So in the near future, who knows, that mystical, esoteric thing we call speculation might become a science itself! - 31856
