Suggestions For Meditation To Relieve Stress And Sleeplessness

By Steven Ballantyne

There are numerous people who are sleep deprived, anxious and unhealthy due to excess stress. Learning meditation can be very beneficial in relieving anxiety and other unhealthy aspects of daily living. Learning to meditate can be very beneficial in calming anxiety, inducing sleep and promoting an overall healthy feeling.

Many of the basic techniques are very easy to do and with practice they only improve your healthy outlook. The breathing technique is one of the simplest forms to learn. Begin with an extremely quiet location when you have a comfortable place to sit or lie down. With eyes closed concentrate on how you are breathing. Do this for approximately ten minutes and there will be an almost immediate calmness.

The use of this or other breathing techniques are excellent ways to relieve stress and anxiousness. Continue to practice this exercise by starting with five minutes of quiet time and continue increasing the time by five minutes until you are utilizing the technique for thirty minutes at a time. The technique should be practiced everyday and if passable at the same time each day.

Focusing techniques are also beneficial as stress reducing methods. Using a lit candle, sit in quiet and focus on the flame of the candle. As things appear in your thoughts attempt to let them go without concentrating on them. In order for this to be effective, you will need to be completely uninterrupted and able to concentrate fully on just the flame.

Soon you will be open to learning new techniques and forms. Each session will leave you with a calm feeling. A more experience form is to focus on nothing, meaning let your mind be free of thoughts. Sit alone in the quiet and think about nothing. If you feel your mind staring to wander simply breathe and let the thoughts leave your mind.

For some the techniques involving sitting alone and thinking of nothing or staring at a candle may be uncomfortable. If this is the case search your home for an object you love to look at. Using the technique for the candle flame, focus on the chosen object. Use the same object for each session that you practice. Also implementing breathing forms into this technique may be extra beneficial.

Taking advantage of all that mediation has to offer, means practicing the exercises until you find the form that best fits you and your lifestyle. After you have practiced for a month or more, you will begin to notice the calmness in yourself. The technique you choose should be one you are comfortable with and it should be done daily. - 31856
